BOUNDARIES
O Lord, do not let me place myself between my adult children and my grandchildren! I do not know all the facts. I was not there when the incident took place. I will need Your wisdom to affirm their parents in the decisions and choices they are making for their children while offering an understanding ear to hear my...

OVERCOMING ACADEMIC STRUGGLES
Heavenly Father, my precious grandchild is struggling in school. My heart hurts for her. I ask You to break any cycle of discouragement, disappointment, and failure. Would You replace this pattern with a season of new possibilities. The assumption that this child will fail blinds her to new possibilities that You have for her. She thinks she cannot learn, and this keeps her from knowing what she cannot yet see. Her teachers, her parents, and her classmates may only see her weaknesses. You see the strengths You gave her to bring honor to Your Name. Others see what this child has done so far in her class work. You see what she is capable of doing with patient training and a little more time. This grandchild sees why she cannot do things; You see how she can.

GENEROSITY
Grant that my grandchildren may become generous people, always willing to share. By doing this they will store up for themselves the riches that endure forever, and so take hold of the life that is really life. May they give generously without a grudging heart. Then You, the LORD their God, will bless them in all their work and in everything they put their hand to.

RUNNING AWAY
Father, I received word today that my grandchild wants to run away from home. How often I have wanted to do the same! If only I could pack a knapsack with a sandwich, a jar of lemonade, my $.15 savings, and my favorite stick and leave the pressing needs I face behind. Why is my grandchild running away, Father? Is he frightened like Elijah, stubborn like Jonah, disappointed like Cleopas? You know why he feels disconnected to his family and wants to run away. Father, I know You will meet him on his journey down the street.

SACRED VACATION
They’re off, Lord! They have packed their bags, stowed their gear, checked their maps, and are on their way. My heart is glad, for I know this trip will bring them much needed rest from their busy schedule. I pray that Your Presence will go with my family, and You will give them rest. Lord, I pray that this vacation will provide time for their parents to enjoy my grandchildren. Would You bring opportunities to them to truly listen and engage. Open their ears to hear what is on the hearts of my grandchildren.

SHARING PRAYER
Father in heaven, what a blessing, joy, and privilege to pray with my grandchildren. From their earliest days, I carried them in my arms and whispered secret prayers while they slept. I rocked them to sleep as toddlers saying, “Now I lay me down to sleep…” You are my Teacher in the School of Prayer. My grandchildren will look to me to observe how I enter into Your Presence. Together we will join hands and bow our hearts to You. Ears to hear and eyes to see--both are gifts from You. Teach them the tender and profound salutation, “My Father.” Lead us to worship together in Your Presence.

COURAGE
Holy Father, there are many things that could cause my grandchildren to tremble: new or unfamiliar situations; their parents leaving them with sitters; school tests and reports; aggressive children on the playground; medical treatments; standing up for You. These are rehearsals for times when they must be courageous as adults. When my grandchildren are afraid, I pray they will learn to put their confidence in You.

THE INTERNET
Lord, who could have imagined how dramatically our lives would change with technology and the internet? Countless benefits have come, but some aspects of the internet have had terrible consequences for our society. I thank You for the good uses of the internet in my grandchildren’s lives, and I beg You for protection from evil intentions of others and the enemy to bring destruction into their homes. Father, there is no filter like the filter of the Holy Spirit.

GOOD BEHAVIOR
Father, I have observed my adult children teaching my grandchildren proper manners and etiquette. They are patient and persistent in guiding these little ones in being grateful for what they are given and in thinking of others besides themselves. My prayer is that my grandchildren will not only learn social comportment and polite behaviors, but that You will establish respect and courtesy in their hearts so that their outward behavior is truly a demonstration of an inward quality.

BOUNDARIES
O Lord, do not let me place myself between my adult children and my grandchildren! I do not know all the facts. I was not there when the incident took place. I will need Your wisdom to affirm their parents in the decisions and choices they are making for their children while offering an understanding ear to hear my grandchildren’s frustrations. Keep me from ever undermining my family’s leadership and authority.

PROTECTION FROM THIS WORLD
Heavenly Father, my grandchildren live in a culture that is counter to a life of purity. They are battered on all sides by pressures to succumb to exhibiting their bodies in degrading fashion. I pray that You will strengthen their inner man to stand against this culture’s values. May they be presented to You in glorious splendor, without spot or wrinkle, that they might be holy and faultless.
